The Malias – The Coo Keepers
Meet the Malias — a passionate, first-generation farming family based on a sustainable farm in Winnsboro, Texas. Together, they raise a variety of pedigree livestock, including:
Highland and Dexter cattle
Boer goats
Herdwick, Hebridean, Shropshire, and Scottish Blackface sheep
And most importantly — four incredible kids!
It’s from their children’s names that the fold gets its name: MaHuRuCo combining the first two letters of Maeve, Hugo, Ruben, and Corin.
As caretakers of the land and proud breeders of Highland cattle, the Malias are committed to ethical, sustainable practices that promote animal welfare and breed preservation.
Ash Malia is a proud Trustee of the Highland Cattle Society, further underscoring the family’s deep dedication to this iconic and hardy breed.

Here’s a refined and professional version of Paul’s story for your website, keeping the heart of his journey while presenting it in a way that resonates with visitors and aligns with your brand’s tone:
📸 Meet Paul
Website & Marketing Manager | Photographer | Cow Companion
Paul is our website and marketing manager, as well as a talented semi-professional photographer. His journey with Highland cattle began during a deeply challenging time in his life after losing his best friend, a business, and going through a divorce, he found unexpected healing in the quiet presence of Highland cows.
What began as a personal coping mechanism soon became a passion project. Spending time with these gentle, curious animals and being surrounded by nature offered Paul a form of “Highland Cow Therapy” helping him reconnect, find peace, and rediscover purpose.
Today, if Paul isn’t behind the camera capturing magical moments, you’ll likely find him grooming the herd or keeping our overly friendly coos entertained during the Peak Experience tours.
His vision led to the creation of Highland Cows of the Peak — not just to celebrate these majestic animals, but to champion the mental health benefits of being around them. Through this growing community, Paul hopes to show others they’re not alone — and that healing can sometimes come with horns, hooves, and a lot of fluff.
